Though he has struggled since arriving in Edmonton this summer as a free agent, Andrew Mangiapane is a name that continues to surface in trade rumours.
Winnipeg possible destination for Mangiapane
The Winnipeg Jets are last in league standings this year, with a record of 15-22-5 and 35 points. One of their biggest problems has been their inability to score goals, with their 121 placing them 25th in the league.
They also score at a rate of 2.85 goals per game, according to NHL.com and need to find players that can help them to increase that number to above 3.00.
Andrew Mangiapane has the ability to provide secondary scoring, on team where he can actually contribute, and not be a healthy-scratch in consecutive games.
Andrew's TOI this year with Edmonton is 13:33, about 3:00 minutes less than when he played with Calgary and was scoring goals, like his 35 in 2021-22, where he was also a plus-20.
As Elliotte Friedman stated in the above post, Mangiapane has a year of term remaining on his contract, in addition to this year. This would benefit the Jets, and his $3.6M cap hit can be easily managed.
It's been a disappointing year for the Jets, after finishing 1st in the Central Division last year with 118 points, and 2nd the year before that with 110 points.
If they hope to return to dominance, they will need to build a roster that can score. Playing lots of minutes and in a new city, Mangiapane can be the help the team is looking for.
Winnipeg, of course, is not the only team that will be looking to add scoring. It's quite possible that Mangiapane finds his way back to Calgary, with the BOA rival also performing poorly this season.
