According to reports, Edmonton's big free-agent signing Andrew Mangiapane will likely have a break-out season playing with the league's most potent offense.
Twenty-nine year old Mangiapane spent most of his NHL career playing for the Calgary Flames and has a very good understanding of the Oilers' organization, and of what the team can accomplish.
Andrew Mangiapane brings offense and grit to an already talented lineup
Speaking with TSN 1050 Andrew commented on playing for a Stanley Cup contender.
"When they (The Oilers) reached out, I couldn't pass up on that opportunity. I have this great opportunity to play on a Stanley Cup contender who went to the final two years in a row. They're a great team, I get to play with great players, and I felt like it was a great fit for my family. McDavid reached out, Draisaitl reached out and so did Kris Knoblauch...You feel like you're wanted in a way. They want you and they know what I can do.»
Andrew brings a much-welcomed brand of toughness to the Oilers' lineup, the kind that gets under opposing players' skin; the kind that is effective in the playoffs.
«The other thing we like about him is his ability to extend the play. To play a give-and-go game,» Bowman said, skills that Perry possessed but that Kane simply did not have. «He's an active player. He's also competitive player. He's not the most fun to play against.»
Over his NHL career, Andrew has played 498 games, scoring 123G and 120A. On July 1, 2025, he signed a two-year, $3.6M AAV contract with the Oilers.
Over Mangiapane's 7-years with the Calgary Flames, he knows personally what Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl can do on the ice, and now has a chance to play with the two offensive superstars, who will likely compliment his game.
«I feel like that's where I thrive,» Mangiapane said. «Be on that line. Aggravate guys. Get under their skin. Be a pest. Be annoying to play against. I think that's what kind of makes me successful, and I'm happy to be back in Alberta and hopefully be given the opportunity to play in all situations.»
We look forward to watching Andrew thrive, and do his part to bring Edmonton a Stanley Cup.
