Stuart Skinner directly asked about prospect of being traded off Oilers
Top NHL insiders are suggesting Skinner's time in Edmonton could soon be coming to an end - for the benefit of the team and himself. Skinner is hearing so much noise right now, and it can't be helping at all.
Speaking to the media today, Edmonton journal writer Jim Matheson directly confronted Skinner with the fans' desire to see him gone.
MATHESON: The fan wants - every time you turn around they want another goalie. Don't want you. I mean, that must hurt.
SKINNER: Yeah. That's happened a lot here, no? No I was there for that. I felt bad for him. That's happened a few times here.
Goalies need to come up with big saves at big times. I'm not really too sure how much I can really say on that either. It's kind of just part of being a goalie.
Honestly, this is a brutally uncomfortable question from Matheson - not even really a hockey question. It's tough to see Skinner, an Edmonton native that's seen this happen with Koskinen, Dubnyk, and more, see this happen to himself.
You can see on his face that it's an extremely difficult topic to even speak about. With these emotions clearly in display, it does look like Skinner himself would also benefit from a fresh start elsewhere.
The Oilers could potentially wait as long as the trade deadline to make a move, but with the heavy emotions on display and the team still falling in the standings - it looks like the time is now to just move on.
