The Edmonton Oilers brought in a slew of under the radar free agent signings early in the playoffs, and including Quinn Hutson - the brother of Canadiens' blueliner Lane Hutson.

The Oilers signed Quinn Hutson on April 12th after the conclusion of his season with Boston University in the NCAA. They offered him a 3 year contract, and burned the first year by bringing him up to play 2 games.

Quinn Hutson named Oilers dark horse in upcoming season

The 23 year old right winger played well in his first two games with the Oilers, but there doesn't appear to be a spot for him on the current opening night roster.
That said, based on Hutson's performance with Boston University, he could be an NHL player already. Allan Mitchell raised on Lowetide that Hutson currently even profiles to score more than Howard by NHLe.
Moving ahead to modern times, Quinn Hutson is the proud owner of a .54 pts-game NHL equivalency. Ike Howard? He has a .46 pts-game equivalency. No one believes Howard is behind Hutson. I don't think that's the point of NHLE. It gives us a different view, a vantage point that allows us to draw a conclusion.

- Allan Mitchell

Hutson has a significant statistical advantage purely by being two years older than Howard, but it also shows that there's some real promise behind Hutson as a player for the Oilers.
He'll likely begin the year in the AHL by virtue of the Oilers depth chart. Getting some development time in professional games will be good for him, but if there's an injury, he could be among the first call ups.
Just by being the brother of Lane Hutson, there'll be belief that Quinn could share some of his elite hockey sense that's led to his quick domination of the NHL. Hopefully it'll be true for the Oilers, and for now they'll have 2 years to develop him.
