The Edmonton Oilers picked up Connor Ingram as a backup-plan for their goaltending, but the project isn't going well so far.
Connor Ingram is facing some extremely difficult circumstances in trying to make an NHL comeback after last playing in February. Unfortunately for the Oilers, it may be a long road back.
Oilers AHL team sits Connor Ingram in back-to-back games
Through 4 games this season with the Condors in the AHL, Ingram has posted an ugly .848 save percentage.
This weekend the Condors made the choice to play
Matt Tomkins twice in back to back games, while Ingram sat on the bench. That's not a good sign for confidence in Ingram.
To be fair, Ingram has an extremely difficult road back to the NHL after his circumstances. He entered the NHL's Player Assistance Program last season after the passing of his mother, seeking help with his mental health.
He's missed all of training camp, and is further behind than most players in dialling up his conditioning.
It's understandable that he may start the season slowly, but this has got to be a disappointing start for the Oilers - especially given their goalie problems at the NHL level. As of right now, Ingram doesn't look like he will be an option to be called up.
The Edmonton Oilers cannot afford to enter another spring with the weakest goaltending in the playoffs. They need to make a move in net, and so far, Ingram doesn't look like the solution.
