The Edmonton Oilers are taking to the ice for practice before facing the Seattle Kraken on home ice tonight, and have unveiled their new lineup without McDavid and Draisaitl.
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins will get the promotion back to being the number once center for the first time in a decade. Vasili Podkolzin and Viktor Arvidsson will play the first line with Nuge.
Beyond that, it's clear that the Oilers center depth took quite a hit. Henrique and Janmark will center the second and third lines, and Derek Ryan will get into his first game since being put on waivers.
Oilers depth will be tested against Seattle Kraken
It's a positive sign that Zach Hyman is back in the lineup and playing after sustaining an injury earlier this week, missing a game and a few practices. Without McDavid and Draisaitl, the Oilers need every healthy body they can get.
Interestingly, Stuart Skinner projects to be the starting goalie for tonight despite his last injury scare. Knoblauch hinted that Pickard may be more likely to start, but going back to Skinner will be their choice.
Hopefully without McDavid and Draisaitl, some of the Oilers supporting cast can step up and gain some chemistry and momentum heading into the playoffs. The Seattle Kraken are a lower tier opponent which should help.
