Oilers owner Daryl Katz sees unreal bump ranked among all sports franchises

It helps its revenues that the Oilers have reached the Stanley Cup Finals in two consecutive years, sporting some of the world's best pro-athletes for the last 10-years in Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, to name two.

Except, revenue is not profitability, which is a function of how well the organization is managed. There have been many franchises that generated plenty of revenue, but were also unprofitable.

Having said that, the Oilers are clearly a well-run organization and deserve all the credit for their on-ice and off-ice successes.

Last year, Sportico ranked the Edmonton Oilers 7th according to the 2024 NHL Franchise Valuations, which is essentially a way to measure a team's worth.

Also, NHL insider Kevin Weekes had reported that Edmonton set a new record for total revenue in 2024-25 ($431M), surpassing their own revenue-record from the year prior.

The franchise value, according to recent reports, increased by 17% over last year, crossing the $3 billion mark for the first time.

The $600M-plus Rogers Place and ICE District in Edmonton's downtown arena has been a key factor in their financial growth, attracting hundred's of thousands more each year to the facilities.

Again this season, the Oilers are intent on making a deep playoff-run, with the usual suspects leading the way and on pace to set career-highs.

It seems Oilers' owner Daryl Katz runs a well-oiled machine. Since 2008, the team has seen significant appreciation from its $170M purchase price.
