The Edmonton Oilers organization is firing at all cylinders off the ice right now, and by recent rankings, have actually become the top revenue earning team in the NHL.

Daryl Katz and the Edmonton Oilers have been skyrocketing in value in recent years, turning the Oilers into a financial powerhouse and one of the richest teams in the NHL.

Edmonton Oilers rank as top team in NHL for all revenues

According to a new report from the Edmonton Journal, the Oilers organization set the record for NHL revenues last year, beating out every other Canadian rival by a wide margin and doubling the provincial rival Flames.
Fuelled by revenues from its Stanley Cup run, the Oilers were the top earning team in the NHL in 2023-24 at $388 million, which is more than the Toronto Maple Leafs at $308 million, even as the Leafs are the top-valued team at US$3.8 billion. The Calgary Flames' revenue was $191 million, not even half of what the Oilers made.

It's shocking to see a Canadian team, and a relatively small market at that, so vastly outperform every other team in the NHL last season. It's a massive endorsement for the success of business in Edmonton and the Oilers.

Reasons behind Oilers skyrocketing franchise value and revenues

Coming out of the Decade of Darkness, plenty of credit must go to owner Daryl Katz for revitalizing Edmonton as an NHL destination city with the construction of Rogers Place and the Ice District.
Then of course, plenty of credit goes to the team's on ice performance drawing in fans from all places. Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl in particular are a major boost for only Edmonton.
Of course, some of Katz's moves that have contributed to an all-time high in revenue aren't totally well-received by fans.
The new advertisement patches on the classic jersey, the ever-increasing concession prices, and the sharp increase in playoff ticket prices last year. Katz set himself up for success, then cashed in big-time by jacking prices and milking the Oilers hype as much as possible in corporate sponsorships.
So, the real driving factor behind the Oilers reaching record revenues last season was the fans of Oil Country. The hardcore fans came out for every single game, regular season and playoffs, going all out to support the wagon of a team.
It's a positive sign for the Oilers that they're developing exceptionally on the financial side, hopefully even giving them some advantages on the ice with the rising cap. As long as Oil Country loves hockey and McDavid is in Edmonton, there's no end in sight.
