Oilers reporter Jim Matheson gave a glowing review of Stuart Skinner's game after the Oilers had lost 3-2 against the New Jersey Devils on Thursday night.

Matheson wrote on X that Skinner had an excellent game considering not much was happening with most of the Oilers forwards.

Oilers fans still angry with management for not acquiring a goalie

Most Oilers fans agreed along with many pundits in the NHL that the Oilers goaltending situation has been precarious at best. Over the course of this season, both Stuart Skinner in Calvin Pickard have not produced the consistency that the team requires in order to win the division him have hopes of a deep playoff run.
One fan noted on X that the Oilers had not had A5 game streak where his save percentage was over .900 since early to mid-November. He also pointed out this was the only time he had this kind of statistic in the entire season.
Even though the goalie market was thin at the deadline, the Oilers had options that they could have used some of their draft capital or even traded one of their prospects in order to acquire a goaltender.
This trade would help either backup Skinner which would give him much needed rest and a chance to reset his mind or find a new starting goaltender who would take the reins and help the Oilers settle down and win the division.

Locking down Pacific Division was goal for this season

After a grueling Stanley Cup playoffs and finals where travel was extensive for the Oilers, the goal for the team was to win the Pacific division and help when home ice advantage which would provide the team much needed rest and the ability to run more practices.
To accomplish this, the team needs consistency and at this time the Oilers are not getting this with their goaltending.
General manager Stan Bowman along with the media felt that the goaltending was sufficient to help carry the load through the remainder of the year but it's becoming clear there was a need and management failed to solve this issue.
