Edmonton Oilers general manager Stan Bowman's gamble on veteran defenseman John Klingberg has paid off in these playoffs.

Since his return to the lineup near the end of the season, and into the playoffs Klingberg has shown that he still has what it takes and has been very effective with his play.

Oilers receiving great value for Klingberg since his signing

Many NHL fans and some pundits across the league were skeptical on how effective Klingberg would be after he announced his return to the NHL after undergoing extensive hip resurfacing surgery.
After spending time with the Dallas Stars, Anaheim Ducks and the Minnesota Wild, he had signed with the Toronto Maple Leafs but his career with the Leafs was cut short after he had extreme discomfort in his hip and needed to shut down his season.
After many months, he was able to return to the NHL where the Oilers decided to pick him up for a $1.755 million for one season. His veteran presence, along with his cannon of a shot at the point has helped the Oilers in their power play and his overall defensive play.
Bowman had to become creative with his moves prior and at the trade deadline as the team had hardly any cap space to work with did not want to dismantle much of their roster.

Klingberg may find a longer term deal with the Oilers

It's safe to say that his play over the past couple of weeks have certainly given the Oilers organization a chance to evaluate whether he should receive a longer term contract.
His play has dictated that he can continue in the NHL despite having that extensive surgery and the team continues to benefit from his veteran leadership an experience especially when it comes to playoff hockey.
Next season, the Oilers have the majority of their defence signed for at least one season but adding a player of his caliber at a reasonable cost is certainly one that should be explored by management.
Game 2 will be held at T-Mobile arena in Las Vegas on May 8th and game time will be at 9:30 PM eastern.
