Oilers' linked to trade with Canucks for healthy scratched power forward

According to Oilers Now, two Canucks' players in particular could be possible targets for Edmonton.

Both DeBrusk and Sherwood would provide the depth scoring that has been lacking for Edmonton, at least at the level they would need to win in the playoffs.

If Elliotte Friedman is correct, however, Kiefer Sherwood is the more likely target. Over 39 games with the Canucks, he's posted 16G and 20 points, and is on pace for a career-high 30-plus goals.

His usefulness on Edmonton's bottom-six will go a long way toward establishing a scoring-balance, while not breaking the bank.

Kiefer is in the last year of a two-year deal at $1.5M AAV, and at 30-years old, is still in his prime, as his season totals suggest.

With the Oilers close to their salary-cap maximum, the numbers fit nicely, as would his role on a team that is lacking in the grit department.

Sherwood plays a straight-line, power forward style, the kind of game the team expected Frederic and Mangiapane to play, but haven't.

He is widely characterized by his physical, gritty style, ability to score timely goals, lead the league in hits, and excel at forechecking, making him a valuable middle-six winger.

By all accounts, Mangiapane is on his way out; Sherwood would make a suitable replacement.

Though Sherwood would solidify Edmonton's 'contender' status, they are not the only team interested in him.

According to The Athletic, the Boston Bruins have shown interest in Sherwood's services.
