Oilers linked to signing KHL defenceman who sued his last team

Selected by the Oilers in the 6th round of the 2022 Draft, Yevseyev played most of last season in the KHL - which is fairly impressive for a 21 year old defenceman. However, some factors will make it a lot easier for him to go to North America.

According to some reports from overseas sources, the Oilers have some interest in getting Yevseyev signed and brought to North America for a year in the AHL.

It should be no problem getting Yevseyev to commit to joining the Oilers organization if they can find consistent playing time for him.

The Russian defender had decent production in the minutes in the KHL, but was also parked on the bench to ridiculous lengths of time - sometimes just seconds in a game. Yevseyev once actually took to filing a lawsuit against his team for more ice time.

Some KHL players don't love the idea of coming to North America to play in the AHL, but if the Oilers are offering development time with a pathway to the big league, he will be interested.

Multiple Oilers analyst have been incredibly intrigued by Yevseyev as a prospect. He's a strong skater who plays a two-way game and able to throw the body as well. Their biggest concern was getting him out of the KHL.

Sighing Yevseyev would be a great move to add to the depth of the Oilers organization, and hopefully add another future NHL defender into the ranks.
