Oilers linked to signing another college free agent, have inside track on Hobey Baker nominee

The Edmonton Oilers have already begun to sign some college free agents, and now have an inside track on two more targets according to insiders.
The Oilers signed defenceman Damien Carfagna yesterday, an impressive 22 year old free agent defenceman from Ohio State University.

According to a new report from Mark Spector, the Oilers are with the Bruins as the final teams interested in signing Dalton Bancroft, son of former NHLer Steve Bancroft.
Bancroft is a 24 year old left winger who's played the last three seasons with Cornell University in the NCAA. This season was his breakout year as a senior, scoring an impressive 15 goals and 27 points in 36 games.
At 6'3 and 207 pounds, Bancroft can play a heavy physical game and has also displayed some scoring talent - a skill set that will intrigue any NHL team.
Oilers may have inside edge on signing Hobey Baker nominee
One other player the Oilers have been connected to is defenceman Mac Gadowsky, a 23 year old Hobey Baker nominee from the Army.
The 6'3 defenceman had an incredibly impressive season, scoring 16 goals and 42 points from the back end, leading his team in scoring, leading his team in scoring by 16 points.
Mac's father Guy Gadowsky is an Edmonton native and longtime friend of Oilers insider and team employee Bob Stauffer. Hopefully they can leverage some inside connections to bring an incredibly impressive defenceman to Edmonton.
Stan Bowman and this year's Oilers management seem to be putting a much higher emphasis on bringing in young free agents to build up the prospect pool - now, some of these additions can start contributing next season.
