The Edmonton Oilers will finally see Zach Hyman return to the lineup later this week, and the team will need a roster move to be cap compliant.
Zach Hyman to return to Oilers lineup this week, corresponding roster move coming
According to a new report from Oilers insider Jason Gregor, Hyman will be cleared to play either on Thursday against Columbus, or Saturday against Carolina. At the very least, Hyman is finally day-to-day.
It's still astounding that Hyman's missed at least 18 games to start this season. He sustained a wrist injury in the playoffs that required a complex surgery and rehabilitation process, but no one expected he would miss this long after the offseason.
With the Oilers struggles creating 5v5 offence and burying their chances, they're highly anticipating that Hyman will be able to help turn things around. He couldn't return at a better time.
However, the Oilers will also need to make at least one corresponding roster move for Hyman's return. Gregor reports that it will likely be assigning one player to the AHL.
The two players ineligible for waivers are Ike Howard and
David Tomasek, making them the most likely players to be sent down. However, there could be other options like placing
Curtis Lazar or
Troy Stecher on waivers.
Zach Hyman's return to the lineup will be a major boost for the Oilers at a time they desperately need it. Hopefully, this can be a moment where the season turns around for Edmonton.
