Many pundits around the league including the fan base have been saying that the Oilers require a goaltender upgrade as the team needs a proper tandem even though
Calvin Pickard is signed for one more year.
Question marks circulated after Oilers goalies showed inconsistency
In the last couple of months leading up to the NHL trade deadline, many felt that the Oilers would look for a new goaltender as the team is in a win now mode and has had shaky performances from their goaltending tandem throughout the season.
Vejmelka signed a new contract just a few weeks ago with Utah which takes him off the market and it's likely that general manager Stan Bowman would wait until the offseason to make his move for goaltending as there will be likely more goaltenders available to trade for or sign as an unrestricted free agent.
Oilers will receive reinforcements before playoffs
Despite the dreadfully low save percentage the team has seen from their goaltenders at times, the Oilers will be receiving reinforcements when
Evander Kane and
Trent Frederic will begin to practice and play.
Kane has been seen on the ice several times over the past couple of days and appears to be closing in on his return date well Frederick is still recovering from his injury and hopes to be ready for the playoffs.
