Edmonton Oilers prospect Roby Jarventie has officially left the organization after only playing 2 games with the AHL's Bakersfield Condors.

Reports surfaced a few months ago that Jarventie would be leaving the organization to continue his career in Finland. It's a disappointing and quick end to his tenure with the Oilers.

Oilers prospect Roby Jarventie finalizes move out of organization Finland

Tappara Tampere of Finland's LIIGA has formally announced the signing of Jarventie, who technically is still a pending restricted free agent of Edmonton's.
Contract news: Welcome to Tappara Roby Järventie!

The 22-year-old winger joins the team on a contract until spring 2028. We warmly welcome Roby, who plays with number 13, to his new home.
The Edmonton Oilers acquired Jarventie and a 4th from the Ottawa Senators in July of 2024 in exchange for former first round draft pick Xavier Bourgault. It was a gutsy trade for the Oilers to move a former top draft pick, and Jarventie seemed to be a promising player.
The Oilers also flipped the draft pick for Vasily Podkolzin, making the trade a win anyway.
Jarventie was selected in the 2nd round of the 2020 draft, and immoderately had offensive success in the AHL upon coming to North America.
In 2022-23, Jarventie scored 14 goals and 30 points in 40 AHL games, and earned his first call up to the Senators for 7 games. Next year was even better, scoring near a point per game in the AHL.
When coming to the Oilers though, Jarventie was nursing an injury that held him out for nearly the first half of the season. He was able to return, play 2 games, before missing the rest of the year again with injury. Despite being a very promising player, Jarventie slipped out of the Oilers and North America.
Perhaps Jarventie will make another attempt to crack the NHL after a few more pro seasons in Finland. Although it's a tough loss for the Oilers organizational depth, the team also signed numerous European and College free agents to help the prospect pool.
Maybe if one day Jarventie does return to North America, the Oilers will have an in on signing a promising player again.
