With all the trade-rumors surrounding Oilers' goalie Stuart Skinner, analyst Nick Kypreos may have spoken out of turn with respect to one in particular.
Though there have indeed been many rumors, it's the facts surrounding Skinner which are disconcerting.
Edmonton went into Tuesday's game versus the Stars with the 2nd-worst team save percentage in the NHL, at .866, which only got worse after its 8-3 loss on the night.
Because of that and more, Nick Kypreos linked Jordan Binnington in a trade with the Oilers, after the Sportsnet analyst posted his 2025-26 season Trade Board.
Except, further reports indicate that Edmonton is attempting to also deal for a St. Louis defenseman, in addition to Stuart Skinner.
Of course, that is not the only possible reason for a trade delay. The Blues' long-time goalie has a 14-team no trade clause this season, which he'd have to waive to make a trade even possible.
Binnington is in year 5 of a 6-year contract at a cap hit of $6M, another potential obstacle for Stan Bowman to overcome.
As per PuckPedia, Edmonton would need to clear about $3M in cap space, not taking into account others that may be included in a deal with the Blues.
No doubt, speculation will continue to circulate, until a trade for a new goaltender is concluded, as losses continue to mount.
Stan Bowman has originally given the Oilers until December 10 to asses the team. Yet, others have said he will give them until Christmas.
In any case, the GM is only delaying the inevitable for an Oilers' club that needs a boost from somewhere.
