Oilers goalie Connor Ingram hits rock bottom in last AHL game, may force more moves
The Edmonton Oilers finally made a splash to get Tristan Jarry, but their other addition in Connor Ingram is still struggling.
The Oilers acquired Ingram in exchange for just future considerations, and he was always billed as a reclamation project. Ingram missed significant time in 2024-25 in the Player Assistance Program, and needed to get back up to speed.
Connor Ingram hits rock bottom of AHL goaltending
Oilers analysts initially projected the team would give Ingram at least 10 games for evaluation in the AHL before a call-up. He's now hit 11 games on the season, and ranks last in the AHL with a .856 save percentage.
With Pickard also posting near league-worst numbers in the NHL, the Oilers should clearly be pursuing another upgrade in the crease. Ingram would be the prime candidate if his numbers weren't at the bottom of the AHL.
After making the move for Tristan Jarry, the Oilers can afford more time for Ingram to find his game.
However if they reach the trade deadline and Ingram hasn't improved, they'll be forced to begin looking at other options via trade. If Pickard continues to play at a subpar NHL level, a move may come even sooner.
Some NHL insiders have suggested the Oilers could make another trade to completely reshape their tandem, and there are decent options available. Former Oiler Laurent Brossoit and Sabres goalie Alex Lyon are two promising goalies on the block.
As of now though, it doesn't look like the Oilers should rely on Ingram being the solution at the backup position this year - unless he turns his numbers around quickly.
