Oilers GM Stan Bowman makes guarantee on Connor McDavid contract and date

Edmonton Oilers general manager Stan Bowman has practically guaranteed that Connor McDavid will re-sign with the team, potentially even on July 1st, 2025.
McDavid is eligible to sign his next contract extension on that date, and the most recent reports suggest that the Oilers captain could command the maximum salary allowable.

When speaking on After Hours, the Oilers general manager fully guaranteed that McDavid would be signed, and the deal could get done by July 1st.
He's the most important player we have here. That is priority number one. We'll get to that this summer, now's probably not the time to be talking about that, but we all know that Connor's going to be here and we'll make it happen.

Bowman didn't say anything out of the ordinary with his guarantee to sign Connor McDavid. The Edmonton Oilers are going to give their captain a blank cheque for this next contract, and accept whatever number he proposes.
Recently, agents and insiders have speculated that McDavid should be asking for the maximum salary, which next season will be $19.1M. That's a hefty amount, but with the rising cap and McDavid being the best player in hockey, it's more than worth it.
McDavid reportedly did ask for more on his previous contract, but called management the day before to take some money off the top to help the Oilers field a competitive team. With the salary cap rising significantly, there won't be a reason for him to do that again.
It's also interesting to hear Bowman name-drop Connor McDavid's agent, Judd Moldaver. Oilers President Jeff Jackson was formerly McDavid's agent and gave the star's representation over to Moldaver, so the two parties have a very close relationship.
There should be no doubt that the Oilers will get McDavid signed as soon as July 1st rolls by. The only question will be how much salary he asks for, and the Oilers will pay up.
