The Edmonton Oilers have been dealing with a worst case scenario with their injuries to multiple star players lately, but today at practice there was encouraging news with multiple players returning.

Captain Connor McDavid was initially reported to be not joining the team on their upcoming road trip, but instead he was able to make the trip - and now he's on the ice.

Oilers get major reinforcements at practice as Connor McDavid joins the team

Not only did Connor McDavid unexpectedly make the road trip, the captain got back on the ice for the first time since sustaining his injury against the Winnipeg Jets. McDavid was still in a no-contact jersey, so a return isn't imminent quite yet.
Additionally, the Oilers finally got to see Trent Frederic join the team for a full practice. Like McDavid, he was also in a no-contact jersey, but it's encouraging to finally see him join the team. Evander Kane also continued to ramp up in practice.
For tonight's game against the Vegas Golden Knights, the Oilers lineup doesn't project to change at all from their last time out. Calvin Pickard will get the start in net again, with Olivier Rodrigue still backing up.
It's great to see the Oilers get some much needed reinforcements inch closer to getting back in the lineup. Once those three forwards return, the Oilers forward group will look the deepest it's been in decades.
The Oilers are still dealing with two significant injuries to Mattias Ekholm and Stuart Skinner, both players who could not join the team on their road trip.
Tonight's game against the Vegas Golden Knights with a depleted lineup will be a hard test for the Oilers. Hopefully their MVP Leon Draisaitl can out the team on his back again, and pull out another victory for Edmonton.
