The Edmonton Oilers are a facing an incredibly tough situation with injuries to Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, and a roster move is expected to occur before tomorrow's game against Seattle.
Edmonton Oilers expected to make roster move after McDavid and Draisaitl injuries
Both McDavid and Draisaitl are expected to miss around one week, or up to three games, which will may force a need for an adequate replacement in the top six. The Oilers had
Derek Ryan on the bench, and
Max Jones drew back into the lineup last game.
Ideally, the Oilers would want a skilled player to take McDavid's place instead of Derek Ryan, so a roster move for
Matthew Savoie could be a possibility.
Adding Matthew Savoie even for a few games would be a much more adequate offensive replacement for the lost skill in the top six with McDavid and Draisaitl out.
If the Oilers do need to make a roster move, Max Jones seems to be the most likely candidate to be sent down to the AHL. Jones is not waiver eligible because he's played less than 10 games since being recalled after the trade from Boston.
News of a roster move could come late tonight, or early tomorrow before the Oilers take on the Seattle Kraken.
Hopefully they do have the time to bring Savoie up for another few valuable games for his development, and to replace some the major lost offensive firepower without McDavid and Draisaitl.
