The NHL is expected to release their official suspension decision on Darnell Nurse late tonight, but insider Darren Dreger believes it will be one game.
NHL insiders expect one game suspension for Darnell Nurse
It's significant to hear that insiders are expecting a one game suspension for Nurse, because it will allow a return in time for Game 1 of the Playoffs.
As Dreger mentioned, a one game suspension sends a message to these two rival teams before the playoffs, and doesn't overly harshly punish Nurse with missing a playoff game - which are considered more valuable than regular season with suspensions.
However, some Oilers insiders do believe a two game suspension could be possible. Missing both Darnell Nurse and
Mattias Ekholm in Game 1 of the playoffs would put the Oilers in a tough spot.
New angles emerge of Nurse hit on Byfield
Additionally, some new incredibly close angles of Nurse's hit have now surfaced online.
In one view from inside the net, Nurse visibly strikes Byfield's head once, forces him to the ice, and strikes him again while down on the ice. Neither contact looked that hard, but it was still contact to a vulnerable area and Byfield left the game with injury.
From another overhead angle, Nurse's first cross check does appear to be a little more forceful.
We won't know the NHL's official decision until late tonight, but a one game suspension seems like the most appropriate punishment for Nurse. A one game suspension seems most likely, but it should be no longer than two.
