Since becoming Buffalo's GM on December 15, Jarmo Kekalainen has made a point of moving forward with just two goalies.
New GM looks to trim goalie roster
When he was promoted to Buffalo's GM, Jarmo Kekalainen's first move was to replace Kevyn Adams as head coach.
His next will be to trade one of Alex Lyon, Colten Ellis, and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, and quite possibly even their prospect Devn Levi.
We're very close. I firmly believe we can make the playoffs this year. There's a lot of hockey left.
I think we've all talked about it pretty much every day, that it's not the ideal situation to have three [goalies].
We're probably to a point where we're probably going to have make decisions to get down to a two-goalie rotation.

The Sabres' GM believes the team can still qualify for the post-season, being only six points from a wild card berth, hoping to avoid a 15th-straight season of no playoffs in Buffalo.
It will ultimately be the goalies that remain with the club that will give the Buffalo the best chance of making the playoffs.
Oilers likely to replace Calvin Pickard
With the addition of goalie Tristan Jarry, Edmonton will probably look to add a backup to replace Pickard, as many recent reports from across the league have suggested, with Buffalo a possible destination.
From a strategic point if view, it makes perfect sense. Pickard this year has a GAA of 4.06 and a SV% of .851, and is 3-4-2.
Edmonton cannot expect to win a Stanley Cup with that kind of goaltending. As insurance to a possible injury to the starter, it just cannot work.
