Right on schedule, Oilers' GM Stan Bowman has traded for a new starting goalie, swapping Stuart Skinner for Pittsburgh's Tristan Jarry.
Stan Bowman had in fact said that he'd assess the Oilers after 30-games played, determining that a new starting goaltender was in order.
Oilers' Tristan Jarry could start as early as tomorrow
Given Jarry has not played much recently, it's likely he will get the start tomorrow night in Toronto, a strategy that would involve placing him right in the spotlight on HNIC on a Saturday night.
Also, starting Calvin Pickard in Toronto is a liability at this point; the Oilers will not want to risk the momentum they've gained in the last six games, managing a record of 4-1-1 with strong play from both offense and defense.
In just a few days too, the Oilers and Penguins will play each other. It could be the first time the Oilers play against Stuart Skinner, with Jarry in net.
Jarry's having a good season thus far, and he's expected to continue to improve on a contending team that is currently battling to maintain its playoff position.
In his thirteen games with the Pens, Jarry has a record of 9-3-1, with a 2.66 GAA and a .909 SV%.
There have been reports of late suggesting the Oilers would acquire Jarry to play in tandem with Stuart Skinner, though in my opinion, this strategy would have created unnecessary tension between the two.
A fresh start as the uncontested number-1 goaltender is the more prudent strategy, where his mandate is quite clear - win games.
For Stuart Skinner, it is also an opportunity to reboot his career in a new city with a championship pedigree, alongside another superstar in Syndey Crosby.
From all of us at Edmonton Hockey Daily, we wish Stuart all the best.
