When you think of Oilers' legends, it's usually players from the 1980's Stanley Cup winning teams that come readily to mind, greats like Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier, Grant Fuhr, Paul Coffey, to name but a few.
Last season, the Oilers Hall of Fame announced that Craig McTavish and Randy Gregg would become inductees, bringing the total number of members to 16, this since the Hall's inception in 2022.
Yet, there are many more names that could be included, and perhaps should be, given their significant contributions to the Oilers' organization.
This year, there has not been an announcement regarding the 2025 Hall of Fame inductees, though it's only a matter time before the names are made public.
Following are four former-Oilers that are most likely to be shortlisted for the 2025 class, beginning will Bill Ranford. The reliable legacy back-stop played 647 games over his NHL career, though 449 were with Edmonton.
Ranford played with the Oilers 1987 - 1996, and the 1999-00 season, posting a record of 167-93-54. The 449 games is the franchise record for games played; he also ranks 2nd in wins. And let's not forget Bill's 2 Stanley Cup rings, and Conn Smythe Trophy as the MVP for his stellar play in the 1989-90 playoffs.
Ales Hemsky was known for his creativity and offensive skills, and was the face of the Oilers' franchise for years, helping the team nearly capture its 6th title by reaching the 2006 Finals.
In his 652 games with Edmonton, Hemsky recorded 142G and 335A (477 points) from 2002 - 2014, making Ales the only inductee representative whose career began in the 2000's.
One of the most notable Oilers to play with Wayne Gretzky was Essa Tikkanen, who was known for his ability to defend against the opposing team's best players. making him a Selke Trophy finalist on several occasions.
In 522 game played with Edmonton, Essa scored 178G and 258A (436 points) from 1985 - 1993, and won 5 Stanley Cups.
Finally, Jason Smith,/b> is one of the most beloved former-Oiler, known primarily for his work ethic and defensive play, where he outworked opponents on a nightly basis.
An Oilers Captain, Jason played 542 games with Edmonton, never taking a night-off, and setting an example for his teammates to follow, on and off the ice. Jason Smith was also known as Gator, perhaps for his tenacity on the ice, and a never-quit attitude in front of his net, in the so-called 'danger-zone'.
