After the Oilers completely dominated the Calgary Flames in last night's game, two plays are being hotly debated by fans: Mackenzie Weegar's ejection and Rasmus Andersson's knee on knee.

It was a fantastic rivalry game to elevate the Oilers confidence heading into the holiday break, back tied for first place in the Pacific Division. After another poor start this year, the Oilers have turned it around and look like a Stanley Cup favourite again.

Flames Coach Ryan Huska visibly frustrated over Weegar incident

Weegar slapped Darnell Nurse's stick away after the whistle in a play, which earned him an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. While in the box, Weegar began smashing on the glass and got himself ejected from the game.
The Flames defenceman then sarcastically clapped his stick on the ice for the referee, a hard visible criticism of the call. You simply can't show up the refs this much and not expect a consequence.
In a game where the Flames were getting absolutely walked, it was a costly mistake for Weegar to get himself booted for an unsportsmanlike penalty. Whatever you think of the call, Weegar's actions directly led to the game being even more of a blowout.
When asked after the game, Huska was clearly very frustrated about the situation. When asked about what the referees had explained on the call, Huska said «It was the stick banging.»
Weegar could potentially see some discipline in the form of a fine for clapping his way off the ice to the referees, but he already cost his team last night.
In addition Oilers media members are calling for the NHL to look into one play from Rasmus Andersson. The Flames defenceman stepped in for a clear knee-on-knee contact after missing the body on a check toward Zach Hyman.
Andersson received a tripping minor on the play, and Hyman wasn't hurt - so it's not likely there's going to be any supplemental discipline. It was still a dirty play, and the Oilers are lucky to still have Hyman.
These two teams will have another chance to match off against each other again right after the Christmas break. It'll be a great holiday treat to all hockey fans.
