The Edmonton Oilers are getting set to play tonight's game against the Calgary Flames on the road, and have named their starting lines and goalie at practice.
Connor Ingram has started the last two games for the Oilers with great results, and the team has a limited time to test him out at the NHL level. With that in mind, he'll get another starting chance tonight.
Connor Ingram named as starting goalie, Oilers reveal starting lines
According to Oilers reporters at practice, the team is expected to deploy the following lineup:
All lines and defence pairings will remain the same as last game, as the Oilers have finally settled into some consistent pairings with solid results.
If anything, the one interesting decision for today's lineup is Knoblauch keeping Max Jones on the 4th line over Curtis Lazar. Both players have been decent 4th liners this season, but Jones has been impressive recently with his speed and grit in limited minutes.
However, it's clear the Oilers are giving this moment to Connor Ingram to run with this and prove himself as the team's new backup.
Ingram's been solid through two games, but that's not a big enough sample size to make a determination on him yet. His results in the AHL this year didn't even look like he warranted a call-up, but the Oilers and many others believe he can get back to his former form as a reliable goaltender.
In 2023-24, Ingram played 50 games with a solid .907 save percentage. If he gets anywhere near that level again, he'll be more than just a backup option for the Oilers - he could be a tandem starter with Jarry.
With a minimum cap hit too, the Oilers are absolutely right to give Ingram this opportunity to run with the crease, and solidify his NHL comeback.
