This season has not gone to plan according to Oilers management as Arvidsson was slated to be a top six-point producer which has failed to happen. Many are realizing that former Oilers Warren Foegele might have been the better choice to keep as they feel it is a straight swap through free agency between the Oilers and the Kings.
Since joining the Los Angeles Kings, Foegele has played 27 games and has scored seven goals with six assists for 13 points and is a + 9 and has been given 13 minutes and 21 seconds of average ice time.
He appears comfortable with the Kings and signed a three-year deal worth $10.5 million holding the cap hit $3.5 million per season.
Arvidsson has only played 16 games for the Oilers due to several injuries that have plagued him this season and has only scored two goals with three assists for five points and as a plus 2. While still on the IR, Arvidsson has a cap hit a 4,000,000 per season while signing a two-year deal worth $8 million.
The Oilers have not received reassurance that Arvidsson play anytime soon as he hasnt been able to play since since being sidelined on November 12th.
Head coach Kris Knoblauch explained that issues are lingering.
Aside the money, it's clear the Oilers are missing Foegele speed as the team took several hits when it comes to their depth and their youth as Foegele, Broberg and Holloway were all lost to either free agency or offer sheets which has hurt the Oilers secondary scoring.
It remains to be seen on how General Manager Stan Bowman will address these issues as he remains vigilant on finding help for his bottom 6 and his defence with the team seems to be stabilizing it has lifted itself in the standings as they currently sit 7th in the Western Conference with 32 points through 27 games.
After beating the Blues yesterday, the Oilers will play on Tuesday December 10th where the Tampa Bay Lightning will come into town. Game time will be 9:00 PM Eastern.
