Several analysts have recently commented about Kris Knoblauch's future with Edmonton, both mentioning the likelihood of him being replaced by unemployed coach.
The old adage, 'where there's smoke, there's fire', seems to apply more and more of late to the Oilers, with the team doing little to put the fire out.
Team suffers another embarrassing loss
Losing to Dallas 8-3 did very little to quiet the media and fans, with the noise now moving from defense and goaltending, to the head coach, whose system was exposed following the game.
In fact, Nick Alberga, the host and director of a popular sports show, suggested a new head coach for Edmonton.
It would very ironic if a Dallas beatdown of the Oilers got Pete DeBoer to Edmonton, he posted on social media.
Of course, it would be an obvious speculation, given DeBoer's connection with Dallas, mainly due the Oilers defeating Dallas in the post-season.
Yet, it wasn't only Alberga that mentioned the currently unemployed Pete DeBoer in association with Edmonton's bench.
During his 32 Thoughts podcast, Elliotte Friedman spoke to a potential coaching change in Edmonton:
I do think Peter DeBoer will be back in the NHL, but I would be stunned if it was in Edmonton.
Of course, one of Alberga and Friedman is correct in his assumption, though both positions are largely speculative and not based in fact.
Elliotte Friedman did acknowledge the desperation surrounding Edmonton's season thus far.
I don't like to overreact to one game. For Edmonton, this is more than one game.
Until anything happens, however, all we can do at the moment is to focus on Edmonton's next game, which is Saturday against the Seattle Kraken.
