The Edmonton Oilers have been stuck in a rut going back to before the 4 Nations, and now players got together for some off-ice bonding time at the Lion King to boost their team chemistry.

Earlier this season, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman revealed that the Oilers may be dealing with some on-ice chemistry issues this season. Some off-ice bonding, and actual intangibles could help that.

Edmonton Oilers players go see Lion King musical together

According to New York Rangers reporter Johnny Lazarus, Stuart Skinner revealed that a group of Oilers players went to go see the Lion King broadway show while in New York.
It can be just a fun anecdote that some pro hockey players spend their off time going to see some Disney musicals, but it's great to hear the team is spending time off the ice as a close-knit group and forming a bond off the ice.
In team sports and especially hockey, some locker room intangibles can really make a difference and bring a locker room closer together. Maybe to get out of their rut, the Oilers need a little off ice time.
One Oilers fan recalled a hilarious moment from last season where Ryan McLeod was absent from a game in Montreal, and Draisaitl described it as «stomach issues» with a laugh.
I do believe in everyone going out and getting f***** up and have some shared debauchery. Remember when McLeod missed a game in Mtl and Leon did an interview and said he had "stomach issues" and rolled his eyes and laughed?

Going to see the Lion King musical is an infinitely more tame off ice pass time, but a night out on the town may be exactly what the team needed.
Some Oilers fans and reporters have recently raised how big a loss McLeod may have been for team chemistry.
Hopefully the Oilers got around to a little bit more than a musical, and can find a way to come closer together down the stretch run of the season. There's been a lot of turnover this season from last, and now's the time for the group to come together.
