Edmonton Oilers given shocking odds for rest of NHL playoffs and Stanley Cup

The Oilers were the runaway cup favourite entering this season, but before the first round against the LA Kings, Edmonton was actually rated as underdogs - a trend that's continuing to the third round.

After the Oilers officially punched their ticket to the Conference Final, MoneyPuck analytics updated their playoff odds for the next round, and the Stanley Cup.

Dallas is already favoured to beat Edmonton, and the Oilers are ranked the 4th most likely team to win it all.

According to MoneyPuck's calculations, the most likely teams to win the Cup in order are the Florida Panthers, Carolina Hurricanes, Dallas Stars, and then the Edmonton Oilers.

Frankly, it's crazy to see the Oilers still as underdogs with their talent, roster depth, experience, and their incredibly successful playoffs so far. The Oilers are 8-1 in their last 9 playoff games, an insane clip for the postseason that came against quality Vegas and LA teams.

Sure, Dallas, Florida, and Carolina have quality teams too, but the Oilers have the best player in the world and were the second closest team last year. On top of their roster strengths, they're also uniquely motivated to take care of unfinished business.

Ranking the Oilers as the underdogs is almost disrespectful, and borderline arrogant to the NHL of the last year. Right now, McDavid's Oilers look like a group that will not be denied a Cup.
