Given that David Tomasek is once again a healthy scratch tonight versus the Penguins, the Oilers are faced with some decisions about the forward's future with the club.

What makes Tomasek's absence from the lineup even more disconcerting is that Philip, Clattenburg, Kapanen, and Roslovic are all out with injury and yet still he can't find his way into a game; not regularly at least.
Once these players do return to action, David's position on the Oilers will become even more tentative, as they will need to trade, waive and/or demote some roster players.
In his first year playing in the NHL, Tomasek has been used primarily in a bottom-six role.
He was initially given an opportunity as the net-front presence on the Oilers' top power-play unit due to injuries, but ultimately failed to be an effective presence.
In his 22 games this season, he's recorded 3G, 2A and is a minus-6, with a TOI of 10:46.
As of mid-December, his inconsistent spot in the lineup has led to speculation that he could be a potential trade candidate.
When he has played, Tomasek has shown good hockey sense, displaying a strong work ethic and defensive responsibility. Analysts thought he might have been able to command a draft pick in return for trade, but no move has materialized.
Though he has not shown it with the Oilers, Tomasek has a natural ability to score goals, as he did consistently when playing in Czechia.
This makes him an enticing player for any team that is in need of depth scoring.
The Oilers appear to trust Clattenburg as a bottom-six forward when he's healthy. Tomasek's place with Edmonton is tentative at best.
The likely option for the 29-year old is to allow his one-year contract to expire and become a UFA, unless a suitable trade partner is found before the trade-deadline.
