The Edmonton Oilers have played through this year's playoffs all while missing their top defenceman Mattias Ekholm, who has just now resumed skating.
Ekholm has been ruled out of the entire second round with his undisclosed injury, and may even miss more time into the third round.

According to Oilers reporter Tom Gazzola, Ekholm has begun to skate by himself, but is still considered weeks away at best.
The second round will be over within a week, so it stands to reason that Ekholm won't even be available for the first half of the third round.
At that point, it begins to look more and more unlikely that he will return to play at all.
Mattias Ekholm ruled out for at least two more weeks, pushing back return into middle of third round
More significantly, the Oilers may start getting concerned about the time left with Mattias Ekholm.
The veteran defenceman is about to turn 35 years old in the next few weeks, and has been relied upon for heavy minutes in his Oilers tenure. Once injuries start to crop up at his age with heavy usage, the level of play can drop fast.
Whatever Ekholm is dealing with, it's a major injury to keep him out of the playoffs for this long. Hopefully he's able to make a full recovery, and get back to the Oilers lineup next season at this point.
