The Edmonton Oilers are gearing up for a midday matchup against the Minnesota Wild, and the first game without Tristan Jarry since their trade.
The Oilers have recalled Connor Ingram from the AHL, despite extremely poor numbers so far this season. Edmonton still believes in Ingram, who was a quality NHL starter just 2 years ago, and will give him the chance to prove himself again - but not today.
Calvin Pickard named starting goalie, Oilers expected to run same lines as last game
According to an update from Oilers broadcaster Jack Michaels, it will be Calvin Pickard getting the starting opportunity today against Minnesota.
The Oilers didn't hold a morning skate today, but their lineup is expected to be very close to that of their last game. The top six has stayed intact for a few weeks now, but there may be some minor changes in the bottom six and defence.
Curtis Lazar and Alec Regula missed last game with injury and illness respectively. Max Jones and Riley Stillman entered the lineup in their place, and both performed well.
Depending on Lazar and Regula's status there could be some swaps there, but otherwise the lineup has finally started to settle in with some consistent combinations.
The Oilers are also starting back-to-back games today, which means Connor Ingram will be likely to be make his Oilers debut tomorrow against the Vegas Golden Knights.
Both games will be a tough test for the Oilers given their goalie situation, but we'll see if either netminder rises to the challenge - and if the team can raise their game for the circumstances.
With a win today, the Oilers could actually move into a tie for first place in the Pacific Division. Despite their slow start, this team still is in position to have a solid season and make another deep playoff run - and two wins this weekend would go a long way toward that goal.
