The Edmonton Oilers have announced three roster moves in the wake of losing Tristan Jarry with injury, including the recall of goalie Connor Ingram.
Jarry left last night's game against the Boston Bruins with a lower-body injury, and has now left the Oilers road trip for medical evaluations in Edmonton. Now, he's confirmed to be ruled out for at least one week.
Edmonton Oilers announce roster moves after Tristan Jarry injury
The Oilers formally announced three roster moves this morning, including calling up goalie Connor Ingram. Tristan Jarry moves to the Injured Reserve, while Jack Roslovic moves to the Long-Term Injured Reserve.
This brings up some key differences between IR and LTIR that will affect the return timelines of each player.
By being placed on IR, Jarry will not be able to return to the lineup for at least 7 calendar days. That rules him out for at least the next 4 games, meaning Ingram will get at least one start.
Jack Roslovic moving to LTIR looks concerning, as it would rule him out for at least 10 more games or 24 calendar days.
However, Roslovic was hoping to make his return prior to the Christmas break. This looks to be a retroactive move to LTIR to grant the team salary cap relief for Ingram's call up. Unless Roslovic suffered a major setback, he should be back in the lineup next week.
At the very least, this injury to Jarry shows the Oilers need at least one more solution to be ready in net - Calvin Pickard shouldn't be relied on to spot starts for an extended time.
Connor Ingram has the first opportunity to prove himself, but if his results match those he's posted in the AHL, the Oilers will be back in the trade market for a backup goalie soon.
