The Edmonton Oilers are reportedly making another emergency roster move to call up goaltender Colin Delia from the AHL, which suggests bad news for Calvin Pickard.
Speaking to the media this morning, Oilers coach Knoblauch confirmed that Pickard will be unavailable for Game 4, and that his injury is still considered day to day.
Oilers emergency roster move suggest Calvin Pickard may be more than day-to-day with injury
Oilers reporter Tom Gazzola confirmed that Colin Delia is en route to Edmonton to join the team in the wake of the Pickard injury.
Delia is a 30 year old journeyman goaltender who spent the entire season with the Bakersfield Condors in the AHL, posting a .906 save percentage in 28 games. He does have 52 games of NHL experience, last playing 20 games for the Canucks in the 2022-23 season.
He's absolutely not being called up for an option to play games, but as a third goalie for practice, or a Black Ace. It suggests that Pickard may not even be close to returning to practice.
TSN reporter Ryan Rishaug reported that Pickard tested a skate before the main group yesterday, but quickly came off the ice. The Oilers are officially reporting a day-to-day issue, but it seems like it could be a little worse.
If Pickard is knocked out for the next few games,
Stuart Skinner will be relied upon to hold the fort for Edmonton - and he's been shaky so far.
The Edmonton Oilers should have traded for a goaltender this season, but now it's up to Stuart Skinner to prove himself, and give his team a chance to win this series.
