Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal has had a solid track record on predictions on whether certain players will come to the Oilers. Matheson feels that general manager Ken Holland is certainly interested in bringing Perry to the Oilers.
Earlier today, Matheson doubled down on his prediction that the Oilers are pursuing Perry.
Later on, Oilers insider Bob Stauffer confirmed Matheson's report, and said with certainty that the Oilers are interested and talking to Perry.
One key factor is the success story is Evander Kane's reputation as a player in Edmonton after having a terrible track record with the San Jose Sharks while battling with his ex-wife Anna Kane. He remained productive throughout the proceedings and has done extensive community involvement.
Perry himself still has much to offer to the Oilers including his scoring touch which put him third in scoring on the Blackhawks prior to his dismissal. He still plays with snarl and can get under the skin of many NHL teams.
The biggest factor would be his playoff experience having been in winning the championship with the Ducks in 2007 and was in several Stanley Cup finals recently.
It's an intriguing proposition and maybe Holland is willing to take another chance on a damaged star.
