Last night's game in Montreal between the Canadiens and visiting Florida Panthers was very intense and physical to say the least. With three fights and over 90 minutes worth of penalties combined it's a coaches nightmare.

One of the stories from the game was between Canadiens defenceman Mike Matheson and Panther's forward Eric Staal. during the first period Matheson and Staal were chasing down a loose puck, when the Habs blue liner stops and levels the former Canadiens forward. No penalty was called on the play and after a brief moment on the bench, Staal left for the locker room and did not return.

That wasn't all as late in the 3rd period with the Panthers up 5-1 Staal's teammate Matthew Tkachuk would challenge Matheson to a fight and Matheson answered the Bell. The Panthers would go on to win 6-2 over the Canadiens.

Many thought that would be the end of the situation, but today the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety announced they have fined Matheson $5,000 for interference on the altercation with Eric Staal.
