Trading cost for top Flames defenceman is less than expected says insider

The Flames are going to practically own the trade deadline this year, with rare commodities like goalie Jacob Markstrom and defenseman Chris Tanev to deal. They already shipped center Elis Lindholm to the Vancouver Canucks for a 1st round pick and prospect Hunter Brzustewicz.

However, it seems as if Calgary won't get as much for him as we originally thought. According to a new report from NHL insider Frank Seravalli, Tanev won't be traded for a first round pick as initially believed - it'll likely be a second round pick.

Tanev is 34 years old and will be a one-year rental. He has one goal and nine assists, tallying up to ten points in 48 games with a +10.

Whoever gets him will be getting an incredible deal on solid defensive defenseman. It's about time the Flames tore it down as rebuilt, as they have been late first round entries to lottery selections the last few years.
