Oilers fans continue to enjoy having the face of the NHL as their leader while giving them electric performances as they try to secure a playoff spot. But it seems some reporters and Oilers podcasters are turning their attention to the other face of the NHL who is Auston Matthews.
During a segment of the Cam and Strict Podcast, Both hosts discussed the idea of Matthews becoming the all-time goal scoring GOAT, and passing Wayne Gretzky's record of 894 goals. With Matthews on a torrid pace of 49 goals through 53 games this season, there is little doubt he will challenge the 70 mark. He seems to be on mission this season after locking down his 4 year extension with the Leafs while having a disappointing 40 goals last season one year removed from winning the Rocket Richard.
However, I'm sure that McDavid will have something to say about this and certainly get back on track to his incredible scoring rates as seen before. Both players will make their case for the greatest scorer of all time but it seems McDavid is working on getting to 1000 points prior to 10 years in the league.
He currently stands at 933 points in his NHL career.
