Former Hockey Night in Canada broadcaster Bob Cole passes away

Bob Cole, a name that hockey fans in Canada know very well from his work on CBC on Saturday nights, has sadly passed away at the age of 90.

The news was shared to CBC by Bob Cole's daughter, Megan, who wanted to share her thanks to everyone who listened to and loved her father's work over the years.


Cole's career with Hockey Night in Canada spanned over 50 years on radio and television, before he announced he was retiring in April of 2019 with his final game being an Original Six matchup between the Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs.


Over the course of his career, Cole has had some great moments that will stick with hockey fans in Canada for a very long time. His trademark "Oh Baby!" is one of the first things fans think about when they hear the name Bob Cole.

In 1972, Cole called Paul Henderson's winning goal in the Summit Series against the Soviet Union on CBC Radio. He also worked countless Stanley Cup Finals and Winter Olympics.
