Player lands awful bone-shattering slash that shocks the arena

Recently, it seems like there has been an uptick in brutal infractions of hockey rules. With the loss of hitting in competitive hockey, players don't have a proper outlet to let out their frustration, which ends up making the game so much more dangerous. This is not only at the level of the NHL, but also leaks down into lower levels of hockey. It seems that players no longer know how to lose graciously, and the rise of temper tantrums seems to be no coincidence. That sentiment seems to be exemplified by this tweet by Spittin' Chiclets, showing another abysmal offence from a hockey player.

This is terrible to see, and it's hard not to feel extremely bad for the receiver of this infraction. Looking at the video, it's clear that the offender meant to do that and possibly even meant to hit the player in the face. The first slash coincidentally looks like the one that Alex Pietrangelo committed on Leon Draisaitl in game 4 of the playoffs last year.

He ended up only getting one game for that, which was criminally low for what happened. This should be an easy 5+ game suspension, as intent to injure doesn't even begin to cover this infraction. Incidents like this continue to happen in hockey around the world, and the Department of Player Safety needs to start actually looking out for the safety of players.
