Gary Bettman has plans to cancel the All Star Game with huge announcement

In recent years, it has become abundantly clear that the current version of the NHL All Star Game and Skills Competition is failing. While the league is taking efforts and enlisting help from stars like McDavid to save the All-Star Game this year, there's breaking news across the NHL today that next year, there will be no All Star Game.

NHL insider Kevin Weekes and Frank Seravalli are reporting that instead of the All Star Game next year, it seems the NHL will shift focus towards international hockey, including a potential return to the Olympics. It was previously dispelled that the NHL wouldn't return to the Olympics and instead would opt for a World Cup of Hockey, but these new reports seem to indicate the Olympics are back as a possibility.

Typically, as one year's all-star game begins, the next city host will be announced. That's why it comes as such a shock to not hear that announcement this year, and instead hear that the league will be skipping it entirely, especially after all the effort that has seemingly gone into saving the All-Star Game this year.

Regardless, if any hockey fan could truly pick, anyone would prefer real competitive international hockey rather than an NHL all star event.
