NHL issues a statement on the Canucks: Ending an eleven-year drought

While they may not be in action tonight, the Vancouver Canucks and their fan base can go to sleep knowing that they're the winners of the Pacific Division, if the result of another game goes in their favour.

In a post on social media on Monday morning, the National Hockey League's Public Relations account shared that the Vancouver Canucks can clinch the Pacific Division title on Monday night if the San Jose Sharks defeat the Edmonton Oilers in any fashion.



If that happens tonight, or if the Canucks are able to clinch on their own, potentially tomorrow night against the Calgary Flames, it'll be the first time that they've ever won the Pacific Division. The last time they won a division title, they still belonged to the Northwest Division, before the NHL realigned ahead of the 2013-14 season.

With the 2023-24 regular season coming to a close later this week and the Stanley Cup Playoffs beginning on Saturday, it'll be interesting to see if Rick Tocchet decides to rest any of his top players before Game 1. That decision could be a little easier to make if the San Jose Sharks beat Edmonton tonight, giving Vancouver the division title, but with two games left - Tuesday vs Calgary, Thursday at Winnipeg, the Canucks will want to finish strong and go into the post-season on a roll.
