NHL issues a statement on Canucks captain Quinn Hughes

The National Hockey League continued polling their writers on Tuesday on who they think will win awards after the 2023-24 season, and today, it was the Norris Trophy.

In a post on their website, the writers at NHL.com had Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes as their winner of the Norris Trophy, which is handed out annually to the league's best defenceman.


Hughes is having a season to remember for a very long time as he's broken his record for most points in a single season in Canucks franchise history. He's also continued his climb up the leaderboard in terms of most points by a defenceman in franchise history, sitting in second place and 77 points back of Alexander Edler for first place.


In 80 games this season, the 24-year-old captain has put up 91 points (17 goals, 74 assists), 38 penalty minutes and is a plus-39. There's no doubt that if the Canucks want to go on a deep run in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, they'll need Hughes to continue playing the same way he has during the regular season.

Hughes and the Canucks have two more games in the regular season, tonight against Calgary and Thursday in Winnipeg before they begin the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs at Rogers Arena. It's still unclear who the Canucks will play in the first round or when the series will begin.
